Cavan Stages Rally 2017 was launched this week in the Hotel Kilmore and we are delighted that Abcon’s brand FinishLine was announced as a new sponsor of this great annual event in Co Cavan. As media sponsor and co-sponsor with The Hotel Kilmore, Wilton Waste and Brady’s Garage, we are so pleased to be in a position to support this wonderful local club, which was established over fifty years ago, in 1964. We spoke to Mr Willie McCormick who was one of the founding members and is still actively involved today. He is duly proud of their record and proof that once motorsport enters the blood, it is there for life.
The committee had arranged for four pristine cars to be on display at the launch, including a 1970’s Mark II Escort and a hand built Honda Civic.
Viewing them and listening to their engines starting up really “fuelled” our enthusiasm for the Rally. It was also a pleasure to meet the club chairman and Clerk of the Course Stephen Kellett, Marty Sherlock, Philip Donohoe, Eamonn Denning, Gerry McIntyre and Lorcan Kennedy who all work so hard for the pure love of motorsport. The format of this year’s rally will see a new twist with the inclusion of the new “shakedown stage” on the Saturday evening with 3 runs over a 3km stage close to service being available for crews to make sure their machines are fully up to the challenge of the traditional loop of 3X3 over a very compact route with low road mileage offering the maximum 120 special stage kilometres. Cavan Motor Club always runs an excellent and professional event and we couldn’t be more excited to be a part of this year’s Rally.
FinishLine and motorsport are of course a perfect partnership as our Automotive Body Repair products could definitely be required post event! However, we absolutely wish every entrant a successful and safe rally. The Rally will be held on 28th May, starting from the Hotel Kilmore, Cavan.
